Lovely guest house with nice rooms, friendly host, good location and superb view of the mountains around. Its a great pleasure to sit in the balcony and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in front of the mighty snowy peaks.
A short climb up from the main market square, this bungalow offers up one of the best views in the surreal town of Kalpa. Totaram-ji was extremely friendly & helpful. Note: they don't serve food here.
I backpacked across kinnaur, spiti, ladakh and Kashmir at a very laid back pace. Over three months of travelling in all these places with public transport and then ending up at different sorts of accommodation. Chini Bungalow was by far the most pleasant of stops. I spent 4 nights here doing not much except finishing a lovely book and taking long walks in the evenings. Anyone who is looking forward to spending some peaceful time away from the usual chaotic India. Kinnaur would be a wonderful choice. Chini Bungalow is located at a comfortable walking distance from the bus stand. The walk to roghi village is an absolute must. The caretaker totaram is very accommodating and friendly. One of the things I admire about the mountains is how the people living around them are so calm, friendly and honest. The prices were pretty affordable. I can't quite recollect how much I paid but it was absolute value for money. Know that buses to and from are limited and so find out timings well before time and stick to them. It's a pitty that the food sucks big time in all these places. Very difficult to find that basic Indian meal. And what's available tends to be tasteless and "chowmeinish". Carry food along if food is an important part of travel for you. Otherwise there are a couple of recommendations like the blue lotus and all. But it is decent or above average at best. The views from this place are mesmerising. I have sat doing nothing but just watching the mountains for hours and hours at times. (And sometimes thinking of all the ex's and how they got away) just kidding!
